This workshop will focus on teaching and developing the skills to throw traditional “Moonjar” shape on the wheel. We will start with a small form using 2 lb of clay, to get the basic form and technique, and then work upwards in terms of scale, using 4 and 6 lb lumps of clay. For those who are adventurous, we shall practice throwing moonjars in two parts, and joining these together, to achieve even larger scale Moonjars. During the workshop we will focus on key areas where you need to improve your technique and approach, recognising that no one approach suits all potters, and that we all have different body shapes and muscle balance/strength – throwing larger pieces of clay should not be a physical workout! ► Course date : 19th April 2026 ►What You’ll Take Home At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with two Moon Jars — a small practice jar and your larger final piece — both bisque fired ready to collect in 2 weeks. ►Who It’s For Intermediate skills at throwing on an electric wheel, with reasonable confidence at throwing with at least 2 lb of clay, to centre, pull up, and refine a shape. Previous experience of the throwing moonjar shapes is not required. ►What You Get: • All clay and materials • Expert tuition in a small group of just 6 students • Two bisque firings (small + large jar) • Tea, coffee, and a warm, supportive studio environment Minimum Age: Participants must be a minimum age of 16.
