my story 1

About Matt Bugeja

My Story

Founder, owner and lead ceramicist at Fatclay Pottery.

It all began at art school in Malta, where I first experienced the tactile magic of ceramics. That initial spark lay dormant for a while, but like many others, the quiet months of lockdown provided an opportunity for reflection and creation. I dedicated that extra time to the potter’s wheel, perfecting my skills and falling completely back in love with the process. I was at that point hooked.

That passion led to the creation of Fatclay Pottery, a family run studio born from a love of the craft and a want to make ceramics accessible for all.

my story 2

We're located on a vibrant street in the heart of Southsea, a street full of artistic flare and talent. We operate not just as a functioning studio but also as an open access space for members to work independently.  We are also lucky enough to have our own gallery space where we showcase and sell our own ceramics alongside the work of other talented local artists. It's a true creative hub.

We cater to everyone, from the seasoned professional to the absolute novice. You can jump in with our comprehensive four-six week foundation courses or just dip a toe in the water with a one-off taster session.

Whether it be taking a spin on the potters wheel or relaxing with a hand building session, we have you covered.

A word of warning: we cannot be held liable for the "pottery fever" that often sets in from that point onwards!
