Spend the day immersed in the dramatic and unpredictable world of Raku firing. This hands-on workshop guides you through glazing, firing, and post-firing reduction, resulting in beautifully unique pieces marked by crackle, smoke, and flame. Raku is fast, exciting, and experimental — perfect for potters who want to explore an alternative firing process in a supportive, small-group setting. ►What’s Included: • Full-day Raku workshop (approx. 5–7 hours) • Expert tuition throughout glazing and firing • Use of Raku kiln, glazes, fuel & materials • PPE and full safety briefing • Relaxed, communal lunch included • Small group size (10 - 12 people) for plenty of hands-on time ►Bisque Ware – How It Works Bisque ware is not included in the workshop price and is purchased separately on the day, giving you control over how much you fire. Bisque pots available to purchase on the day: • Small–medium pieces: £8 – £10 • Larger / more complex pieces: £12 – £15 Most participants choose to fire 2–4 pieces during the day. ►Bringing Your Own Bisque? You’re very welcome to bring your own bisque-fired work. • First 4 pieces: FREE (Maximum size: 12 cm x 12 cm) • Additional pieces: £5 - £7 per pot • All work must be suitable for Raku firing (pieces will be checked before glazing) ►FAQ • Do I need prior experience? Some basic ceramics experience is recommended. You should be comfortable handling and glazing ceramic work. • How many pots will I fire? That’s up to you. Most people fire between 2–4 pieces, depending on size and firing time. • Can I fire large pieces? Large or complex forms may be subject to approval and may incur an additional charge due to fuel use and firing time. • What if my pot cracks or breaks? Raku is unpredictable by nature. Cracks and breakages are part of the process and are accepted risks of this firing method. • What should I wear? Old clothes, closed-toe shoes, and layers suitable for outdoor working. Long hair must be tied back. • What’s included for lunch? A simple, hearty lunch is provided. Please inform us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. • When do I take my work home? Finished pieces can usually be taken home on the same day, once cooled and cleaned.
